What Is a COA and How Is Purity Verified?

What a certificate of analysis is, and how HPLC and mass spectrometry verify the purity and identity of research peptides.

What is a certificate of analysis?

A certificate of analysis, or COA, is a document issued by a testing laboratory that reports the measured identity and purity of a specific batch of a compound. It ties test results to a lot number so every vial from that batch is traceable.

How does HPLC measure purity?

High performance liquid chromatography, or HPLC, separates the components of a sample and measures how much of the sample is the intended compound versus impurities. The result is reported as a purity percentage.

What does mass spectrometry confirm?

Mass spectrometry measures the molecular weight of a compound, confirming that the material in the vial is actually the compound it claims to be. Together, HPLC and mass spectrometry verify both purity and identity.

Why third party testing?

Independent testing removes the conflict of interest that comes with a supplier grading its own product. ENOS Labs USA products are third-party tested. COAs available on request.

Common Questions

What purity level should a research peptide have?

Research grade peptides are commonly expected to test at high purity, often 98 percent or above, with the exact result reported on the batch COA.

How do I match a vial to its COA?

Each vial carries a lot number, and the COA reports results for that specific lot, so the document always traces back to the exact batch in hand.

Can I see the COA before ordering?

ENOS Labs USA products are third-party tested. COAs available on request.
